How We Approach Goals
Every goal in Alignify follows three principles that turn intention into execution.
Three Clear Goals
Focus drives results. Whether you're setting organization goals for the year or individual goals for the quarter, limit yourself to three. Not four, not five—three goals you can remember without looking at a dashboard.
When everything is a priority, nothing is. Three goals force real choices about what matters most right now. Your team can recite them from memory. Your meetings stay focused on what actually moves the mission forward.
Visible to Everyone
Goals aren't private. When your team can see what everyone is working on and why it matters, visibility creates ambient accountability without micromanagement.
Help arrives faster because teammates see blockers before they escalate. Coordination improves naturally because people understand how their work connects to others. Trust builds because there are no hidden agendas or surprise priorities.
Reviewed Weekly
Weekly check-ins take 60 seconds. Update your status, note your progress, flag what's blocking you. This simple habit powers the entire system.
Problems surface early when they're still fixable. Goals stay top of mind instead of disappearing into documents. Your team builds momentum through consistent small updates rather than scrambling at quarter-end.
Writing Goals That Work
Every goal in Alignify uses the same format: From X to Y by When and Why.
From 45 to 75 active volunteers by Q2 so we can launch our neighborhood outreach program
This structure creates clarity and urgency:
Where you are right now—the current, observable reality
Where you're going—the specific outcome you'll achieve
Your deadline—creates urgency without being arbitrary
Why this matters—connects daily work to mission
This format works for both organization annual goals and individual quarterly goals. It forces you to focus on outcomes (what will change) rather than outputs (what you'll do).
How Goals Connect
We recommend a simple structure: three organization annual goals that set direction, and individual 90-day goals that drive execution.
Organization Annual Goals
Start with three organization goals for the year. These are your "North Star"—the outcomes that matter most. Everyone should know these by heart.
Each goal has one owner accountable for its success. Track status simply: On Track, At Risk, or Off Track.
Individual 90-Day Goals
Every team member sets 3-5 personal goals each quarter. These represent their most important work for the next 90 days.
Some individual goals directly support an organization annual goal—mark these as Organization Priority so everyone knows they're critical. Other goals focus on functional responsibilities or personal development.
All individual goals follow the same format: From X to Y by When and Why. All are visible to the team. All are updated weekly.
Why this structure works: Annual organization goals provide direction without changing constantly. Quarterly individual goals create focus without requiring complex cascading systems. When individual goals connect clearly to organization priorities, alignment happens naturally.
How It Works in Alignify
Our system is designed to be simple enough to use consistently, yet powerful enough to drive real alignment.
Set Annual Goals
At the start of each year, leadership defines up to 3 organization annual goals. Keep these focused—if everything is a priority, nothing is.
Everyone Sets Quarterly Goals
Each quarter, every team member creates 3-5 personal goals representing the most important outcomes they're working toward. All quarterly goals are individual—one owner, clear accountability.
Mark Key Priorities
When a goal directly supports an organization objective, mark it as an Organization Priority. This helps everyone see how individual work connects to the bigger picture and ensures priority goals get the attention they deserve.
Update Status Weekly
Once a week, goal owners take 2 minutes to update their status: On Track, At Risk, or Off Track. No lengthy reports—just honest assessment. This surfaces problems early when there's still time to course-correct.
Dashboard Shows the Big Picture
Leaders get a real-time view of goal health across the organization. See what's on track, what needs attention, and where to focus energy—all without chasing people for updates.
The system works because it's built on what actually drives results: clear priorities, shared visibility, and consistent rhythm.
